Setting up a solid website of inventive design that is readable and navigable is crucial to a company’s online presence, as is the passionate marketing of that website.

The finest websites, like the finest products and services, require a marketing strategy that is worthy of them.

1. Search Engine Optimization or SEO

SEO is the name we give to strategies with the intended result of having websites show up in the right Internet search results.

So, if a human being sits at a computer and types keywords into a search engine, relevant companies want to know that they show up in the results when they think they should.

Tactics like revising website content so that germane, relevant keywords are included, increasing the number of backlinks (links for other websites) on a website—ensuring that search engines can enter a site and see what they need to when searching are basic ways to improve SEO.

2. Google AdWords

Google has made it ridiculously easy to market a website, product, or service online with its Pay-Per-Click or PPC program. Companies pay Google an agreed-upon rate each time an Internet user clicks on their ad. If the ad gets no bites, the company pays nothing.

Marketing Sherpa, a research firm focused on marketing, decided to ask a sample of marketing professionals whether they considered PPC programs like Google’s to be effective online marketing tactics and 91% answered affirmatively.

3. Facebook Ads

Facebook has not let Google corner the market on offering businesses – small, medium, and large – attractive advertising packages. With over a billion users across the planet, Facebook provides access to a market that is too big to ignore.

Businesses can choose to invest in PPC plans that are similar to those offered by Google and pay when viewers see their ads or invest in similar schemes.

4. The Title

A website title should be thought of as its cyber sign. If a business website contains keywords that are widely identified with the type of business a company is engaged in, it is much more likely to be found online by its target market.

Google Adwords Keyword Planner is a tool that can be used to discover which keywords would be beneficial to a website, and hence its owner, when included in its title.

5. Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks, or clickable words or phrases, can help a website get some attention online. If Google or another search engine is reviewing a website to determine whether it meets its criteria for inclusion in search results, relevant keywords that are hyperlinked should bump a website further up the search results list.

It is crucial, of course, that the links lead a website’s visitor to a place where they want to go.

6. Your Physical Address

Though a website is your online real estate, it is wise to include the physical address of the business, if there is one. Why? Search engines automatically look for local websites that fit the criteria of a search, so if a searcher in Eugene, Oregon types something like “good Mexican food” into a search engine, local businesses in Eugene will get top billing on the search results listing.

Business Insider tells us that there are 644 million active websites out there in cyberspace, and this means that focused marketing is a must for businesses who want to get their websites noticed.
